How to choose the right LVP

Three details tell you most of what you need to know: wear layer, core, and thickness. We explain what they mean for your rooms and your household.

Thinner wear layers suit bedrooms and light-use spaces
Thicker wear layers suit whole homes, pets, and heavy traffic
Rigid cores resist telegraphing small subfloor flaws
Softer cores feel warmer and more cushioned
Greater overall thickness is generally quieter and more forgiving

Click-lock or glue-down

Click-lock planks float over the subfloor and install quickly. Glue-down offers a more solid feel in large or busy areas. We recommend one based on your subfloor and layout, and we are comfortable with both. For a stone-look alternative, see our vinyl floor tiles.

Preparation makes the difference

A great LVP floor starts below the surface. We level low spots, address moisture where we find it, and use the underlayment the manufacturer requires. We also handle stair nosings, baseboards, and disposal of the old floor. If you need extra prep first, see our floor demolition and prep page.
